What is logicube forensic talon?

Computer forensic Talon is a PC-attached forensic data capture system designed for the requirements of law enforcement, military, corporate security, investigators, and auditors. The forensic Talon simultaneously images and verifies data at up to 4 GB/min. The system supports IDE/SATA drives, and can capture SCSI drives via USB cable. Capture directly from desktop/laptop PCs and MAC computers (via PC interface) using the Forensic cloning software included with the Talon. Optional adapters are available for capture from 1.8”, 2.5”, and compact flash drives.

♣ What kind of problems is Forensic Talon able to handle?

-Keyword search — Search for words and Store multiple groups of pre-defined keyword lists on compact flash. Retrieve search results directly to Windows. Search for suspect names, phone numbers, and any other incriminating information. Add new words while in the field, using the built-in keypad.
-capture data with options of MD5 or SHA-256 verification
-create DD images on the fly– allows users to create DD images at in sizes of 650 MB, 2 GB & 4GB.
-Unidirectional data transfer– Copies only from the external data source to prevent inadvertent over-writing or corruption of a suspect’s drive.
-wipe out the destination drive prior to capture a suspect drive

-with the whole kit, it is quite a professional forensic data capture tool
-keyword search makes the data capture work more objective and effective
-with optional software for RAID IO-RAID Pair Capturing– RAID 2 to 1 and 1 to 2 Software License Key for Logicube Talon. Note: RAID I/O Adapter ( p/n F-ADP-RAID-IO) required to activate this software.

-the price is quite high if you have to equip with most of the key function and gadgets
- most key functions are optional
-because of the simultaneously imaging and verifying data, the transfer speed is not so pleasant

Though ICS IQ Solo-4 IT claimed 18GB/min transfer speed, it seems impossible to reach up to the speed with on-the-fly verification while without any deceleration; meanwhile when performing 1 to 3 or 2 to 2 data capture, the speed may be distributed to each data transfer port.  In all, it sounds a good tool for capturing data from those good hard drives but not the ones with bad sector or for unstable hard drives.

DeepSpar Disk Imager3—released inFebruary 1st, 2010–is a drive to drive imaging tool with emphasis on data recovery. It is a small box and has to be connected to PC. It is an one-to-two disk image tool with transfer speed of 4.5GB/min, adopts UDMA5 transfer mode and only supports DOS.

And the so-called transfer speed approaching 6GB/min maybe is sheer theoretical.
